Our Journey: A Life of Adventure, Family, and Freedom

Tara and KB first met in 2010 when KB, on vacation from New York City, was visiting family in Orlando. They bonded over their shared love of travel, food, and NYC but went their separate ways. A year later, in 2011, they reconnected, and soon after, they moved into an apartment in Harlem, right in the heart of New York City.

Both had traveled extensively, drawn to the thrill of exploring new destinations, immersing themselves in different cultures, and discovering incredible food. As they planned their future together, one thing was certain—they wanted their children to experience the world firsthand, not just read about it. They also wanted the freedom to continue traveling and intentionally build the life they truly desired.

What started as a dream quickly became reality. They were married in Central Park in 2013 and soon after left NYC for Asheville, North Carolina. After welcoming two beautiful children, they made a bold decision: in 2017, they bought and renovated an RV, quit their jobs, and set out on an unforgettable journey. With a 4-year-old, a 1-year-old, and their loyal dog, Yoshi, they embarked on a new adventure, starting with a drive all the way to Alaska.

Over the next two years, they traveled 15,000 miles, visiting 30 states and three Canadian provinces, reconnecting with family and friends, and collecting stories and memories along the way. As their children grew, so did their need for more space. Just as they were considering upgrading the RV, they experienced a heartbreaking loss—their beloved dog, Yoshi, passed away. His passing made them pause and ask themselves, What’s next?

The Answer Was Mexico.

From the moment they arrived in the fall of 2019, they fell in love—with the vibrant culture, the warm and welcoming people, the endless festivals, and, of course, the incredible food. Mexico offered everything they valued about travel, along with an unexpected sense of home.

But as with all great adventures, their journey continued to evolve. After two years of traveling in Mexico, they returned to the U.S. in 2022 to reconnect with family and sell a long-term rental. That decision led them to purchase a fixer-upper cabin, with future intentions of making it a short-term rental—an extensive renovation project that KB took on himself.

Still, Mexico was never far from their hearts. Every day was a step closer to returning.

Almost exactly two years after returning to the States, in 2023, they packed up once again and crossed the border back into Mexico—this time, with no intention of leaving.

For us, travel isn’t just about seeing new places—it’s about creating a life that prioritizes family, adventure, and freedom. Mexico has given us the chance to slow down and focus on what truly matters: meaningful experiences, a rich cultural life, and a deep sense of connection.

Through our journey, we hope to inspire others to embrace adventure—whether that means traveling full-time, moving abroad, or simply making small changes that bring more joy and fulfillment into everyday life.
